A boy was born 1.1 kg with IUGR. He did not have the catch up growth even postpartum. Pediatricians around promised that he would gain weight at 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, etc.
Research over the internet guided me to Silver Russell Syndrome and the pediatric endos consulted rejected that outright.
Visited CMC Vellore where again discussed with the ped endo about the possibility of Silver Russell Syndrome and after insistence, were genetically tested. In 2013, the boy got clinically diagnosed with RSS (ICR1 in 11p15). When asked about growth hormone treatment, the doc was not supportive again and asked to come after 3 years. Meanwhile, the boy started his KG education.
Research over the internet continued and found out about a foundation called MAGIC dealing with SGA babies. A doctor in India who had experience with RSS. was located at PUNE and consulted., He immediately asked to start with GH. Boy's IGF-1 were 33.0 ng/mL whereas the reference range for his age (2 - 6 years) is 51 -303 when tested at Pune.
Anybody who can react please?
